Superintendent’s Message

 

Dr. Mike Barrera is a career educator who has worked in education for over thirty years and has held positions such as Superintendent, Acting Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Executive Director, and Classroom Teacher. He was born and raised in Premont, Texas and began his educational journey at Premont I.S.D. in 1984 where he taught agriculture courses for grades 7 through 12.

 

Additionally, Dr. Barrera previously served as the Superintendent of Schools at Ben Bolt-Palito Blano ISD for four years prior to retiring in January 2022. Dr. Barrera’s numerous accomplishments achieved in over thirty years in education include successfully improving a district’s STAAR academic achievement rating, improving a district’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, and implementing technology device initiatives for students and teachers.

 

Dr. Barrera earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Angelo State University, his Masters of Education Degree from Texas State University, and His Doctoral of Education Degree with a specialization in Education Administration from Oklahoma State University.

Welcome to a new and exciting school year! As the Superintendent of the Premont Independent School District, I am delighted to extend a cordial welcome to all our students, families, staff, and community members. Whether you are new to our District or a returning member, we are thrilled to have you as part of our Premont community.

At Premont Independent School District, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our dedicated team of educators and staff work tirelessly to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning. We believe that every student has the potential to achieve greatness, and we are here to support and guide them every step of the way.

This year, we are excited to introduce several new initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing the educational experience for all our students. From innovative classroom technologies to expanded extracurricular activities, we are continually striving to offer opportunities that cater to the diverse interests and needs of our students.

We also recognize the invaluable role that families and community members play in the success of our students. Your involvement and support are essential to creating a strong and connected school community. We encourage you to stay engaged, attend school events, and participate in district activities. Together, we can create a positive and nurturing environment that empowers our students to reach their full potential.

As we embark on this new school year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your dedication and commitment to our school District. I am confident that, together, we will make this year one of growth, achievement, and success for all our students.
